Martha Carolyn Eldridge

Avon, Indiana

On March 1, 2021 at 5:35 am Martha “Carolyn” Eldridge went to Jesus singing Amazing Grace after a long and difficult illness. She was born on June 28, 1935 in VIC mining camp in St. Charles, VA and was the youngest daughter of Cecil and Sarah McElyea who preceded her in death. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Eldridge to whom she was married for 63 years. Carolyn worked at Western Electric for 10 years. She stayed home raising her family for the next 7 years. Afterwards she took a job at Eli LIlly and retired from there after 25 years. Upon retirement Charles and Carolyn became snowbirds traveling to their home in Naples Florida. Carolyn and Charles loved to travel, camp, boat, and go on cruises. She loved every opportunity she had to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She especially loved the annual family trip with children and grandchildren to Dale Hollow Lake. Any family gathering with children, siblings, nieces, and nephews were always very important. Friends were important and were treated as family often attending in family gatherings. Most importantly she loved the Lord and was first a member of Bridgeport Central Baptist Church. Carolyn and Charles loved serving the Lord and were involved in numerous church activities and functions. Carolyn was the loving mother of Rhonda Walker and her husband Doug, Kevin Eldridge and his wife Debbie, Jeff Eldridge and his wife Lisa, Shawn Eldridge and his wife Stephanie. Loving grandmother of Erin (Kyle) Wolfley, Michael (Allison) Walker, Caleb (Brooke) Eldridge, and Jacob, Isaiah, Brianna, Emma, and Luke Eldridge. Great-grandmother of Isabella, Kellan, Charlotte, Logan, Emmett, Carter, Carson, Chase, Cannon, and Cole, sister of Robert McElyea and the late, Eugene, Buford, Mickey, Jerry, Ronnie, Tommy, and Danny McElyea, Margie Audia, and Louise Howell. Carolyn’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 1:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan Decatur Township with visitation there 11:00 AM-1:00 PM. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Charles at West Newton Cemetery, West Newton, Indiana.
