Martha Lou (Goodhart) Bosma, age 98, of Avon, Indiana passed away peacefully at home on September 18, 2023, with family by her side.
Martha was born on July 13, 1925, in Paris, IL to Amos and Edna (Nugent) Goodhart. The family moved to Danville, IL when she was 3 months old. In 1933 the family moved to Bainbridge, IN where she attended Floyd Center and Groveland grade schools. Martha was the only student in the 1939 Groveland School 8th grade class, so she was transferred to Bainbridge High School. She graduated in 1943.
Martha began working at Allison Gas Turbine in 1943, then at Bell Telephone before returning to Allison in 1951. It was there she met her future husband, Don. On August 21, 1954, Martha married Don Bosma in the Presbyterian church in Danville, IN. Martha retired from Allison in 1969 in order to travel with Don on his many tech rep visits throughout the country. They relocated several times throughout the southwest and made many friends with each move. Martha took great pride in planning and hosting numerous parties; she was the ultimate gracious hostess. Martha and Don’s leisure travel included several trips to Canada and England. Martha and Don recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.
Martha is survived by Don; brother-in-law Arnold and sister-in-law Judy Bosma of April Sound, TX; brother-in-law Glen Bosma of Houston, TX; sister-in-law Doris Haroldson of Houston, TX, and sister-in-law Shirley Bosma of Tucson, AZ. Martha is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, great-great nieces and a great-great nephew.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law John and Lucy Goodhart of Indianapolis, IN; brother and sister-in-law Robert and Edith Goodhart of Brazil, IN; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Marvin and Betty Bosma of Buffalo City, IA; sister-in-law Sue Bosma of Houston, TX; brother-in-law William Haroldson of Houston, TX; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Howard and Geraldine Bosma of Hutchison, MN; and a great-nephew Justin Goodhart of Murfreesboro, TN.
Martha was a long-time member of Speedway Christian Church, Speedway Tri Kappa Sorority, and Groveland Eastern Star Chapter #330.
Private family service for Martha is September 29, 2023, followed by interment in the Garden of Angels at Westridge Park Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN. A celebration of Martha’s life is scheduled for Saturday, September 30 from 12pm-2pm at Martha’s home - 8095 Crystal Court, Avon, IN 46123.
