Marlene J. -Marty- Shumate

Marlene J. “Marty” Shumate, 79 of Carmel, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017. Marty was born July 23, 1938 in Fort Wayne, IN to the late Robert and Dessie Auer. She was a 1956 graduate of Shortridge High School and served many years on its reunion committee.

Marty was a self-employed realtor operating Shumate Realty. She was a licensed broker in both Indiana and Florida.

Marty was a member of the Yacht Club and was the former treasurer of Royal Seafarer in Marco Island, Florida. She enjoyed skiing, traveling, playing cards, gardening and spending time with her family.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday, August 18 at Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel, followed by a memorial service at 7:00 pm.

Marty was the widow of David L. Shumate. She is survived by her children, David L. Shumate, Jr., and Denise D. (Barton C.) Mann; grandchildren, Matthew S. and Allison K. Mann, David L. Shumate, III and Lauren A. (Tyler) Bond; great grandsons, Jaxson and Grayson Bond; sister, Phyllis E. Fleck; brother, Bryan L. Auer; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
