Indianapolis

Mark D. Payton, 62, of Indianapolis passed away on September 3, 2024. He was born in Beech Grove, Indiana on August 6, 1962, to his parents, Charles “Mac” and Irma Jean (Wheeling) Payton. Mark attended Mrs. Lawley’s Kindergarten for 2 years, and It was there that he met his lifelong friends, Mike Glass and Eric Sherrill. Mark then went on to finish his schooling at Little Flower Catholic School and ultimately graduated from Scecina High School in 1981. Upon graduation, Mark worked for the family’s plumbing company. He developed his skills and became a Journeyman Plumber after many years. At one time, Mark performed as a professional water skier in water ski shows at Indiana Beach and Six Flags. Mark was also an avid and longtime Indiana Pacers fan. As a lover of basketball, he also attended many Butler games with his friends and family. He enjoyed staying active outdoors with his friends and family.

Mark could be remembered for his giving and selflessness nature. It was simple—to know Mark was to love him. His laugh infectious and his smile lit up any room that he was in. He wore many titles—friend, brother, uncle, but undoubtedly his favorite title that he wore was “Dad”. Mark was so proud of his children.

Although Mark left this world certainly too soon, his memory will forever be cherished by all who were lucky enough to experience his kindness.

Mark was reunited in heaven with his parents, Charles “Mac” and Irma Jean (Wheeling) Payton and his siblings, Dale Payton and Laurie Pushor.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Jackson Payton and Chelsea Payton; his siblings, Nancy (Gene) Simanek, Diane (Mark) Mills, and Janet (Ken) Newman; his nieces and nephews, Ryan Tumey, Jeremy Pushor, Nikki Voelkel, Josh Simanek, Ross Pushor, April Lelkes, Cory Newman, Payton Mills, and Hannah Mills; his aunt whom he loved like a mother, Sally Hembree; the mother of his beloved children, Sarah Kimball; and a long list of friends, cousins, and extended family members.

A funeral mass will be held at Little Flower Catholic Church, 4720 E. 13th St. Indianapolis, Indiana, 46201 on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 11am. There will be a celebration of life gathering following mass. For further details about the gathering, please contact Mark’s family.
