Marion (Sonny) Sedam of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on December 9 at the age of 90. He grew up in Madison, Indiana, as one of four children to Melvin and Eunice. He was married to Evalena Sedam for 67 years. He retired from Allison Transmission at the young age of 50. He had a love for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway that was only second to that of his family. He began working for IMS in 1954 and enjoyed 66 consecutive years of service, most recently in the role of Co-Supervisor of the Stands and Mounds. In 2018, he was recognized by IMS for his commitment and years of service and was featured in the Indianapolis Star. His most treasured relationships, outside of his family, were that of the close friendships he enjoyed at “the track.”
Sonny is predeceased by his wife, Evalena, and his sister, Inez Smith. He is survived by his sister Audry (Victor) Buente, his brother Richard (Janice) Sedam, his three daughters: Vicki (Joe) Schaffer, Deborah (Benton) Wombles, Vonda (Terry) Kester, his grandchildren: Stephen (Rachel) Schaffer, Tonya (Brad) Ott, Brian Kester, James Benton Wombles III, and great grandchildren: Keith, Kyle, Hunter, Madalyn, Avery, Allison, Tanner, Gage and great great grandson, Logan.
Services will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Decatur Township, 5463 Kentucky Ave, on Tuesday, December 15 with viewing from 11:00 to 1:00 and service at 1:00 pm. He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 1977 S. State Rd 135 in Greenwood, immediately following the service at approximately 2:30 pm.
