Marilynn Kay Boyd

Marilynn “Merk” Kay Boyd of Indianapolis died December 24, 2022 at the age of 78.

She was born January 20, 1944 to Robert Smith, Sr. and Katherine (Slazes) Smith in Strongsville, Ohio.

She married Stephen “Mike” Boyd November 13, 1965 and remained married until his passing in 2013. Although a dedicated homemaker as well as an accomplished businesswoman, Marilynn’s focus centered on her children (Susan, Chris, and Traci) and her grandchildren (Emma and Lincoln). As adults, Marilynn and her daughters became best friends. They enjoyed the simple things such as shopping, vacationing, getting mani/pedis, and participating in the now famous “ring club”—a tradition where mom and daughters bought and exchanged fashion rings. They even “roped” Emma into the fun.

Equally, if not more important, were Marilynn’s grandchildren. She and Mike even moved from Rhode Island to Indiana to be closer to them. She loved cheering for Lincoln at his travel baseball events attending almost all his games. In fact, she was named the team grandmother. She was also Emma’s number one fan attending her many musical performances from kindergarten shows to her collegiate performances.

She leaves behind daughters Susan Boyd Johnson and Traci Kritz (Gordan); granddaughter Emma Sweet (Noah); grandson Lincoln Daniel Kritz; brother Robert Smith, Jr. (Carolyn) and best friend Sally Shaffer.

She was preceded in death by her husband Stephen Michael Boyd, son Christopher Boyd, and sister Sandra Richards.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, December 30 at Flanner Buchanan – Geist, 7855 Cork Road, Indianapolis.
