Marilla Reed

April 8, 1958 — January 27, 2025

Indianapolis, Indiana

Marilla Reed, 66 of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones, in Grand Prairie, Texas. Marilla was born on April 8, 1958, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Charles Trotter Sr. and Bertie Mae Trotter. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.

Marilla gave her life to Jesus at the age of 20 and often described herself as a walking miracle. She loved sharing her miraculous story of healing and how she came to give her life to Jesus. Whether with family, friends, or strangers, Marilla never missed an opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Her love for others was enormous, and she always cared enough to let them know that the best thing they could do with their life was to give it to Jesus.

Marilla was a loving wife for 48 years, a beautiful display of God’s grace and workmanship. As a mother, she was patient and resilient, walking through life with a gentle strength. She was always there when her family needed her most, offering support, wisdom, and love. Marilla was like a second mother to all her grandchildren, who dearly loved her. She had the heart of a child, and would often find laughter in life's serious moments, making them light and endurable.

Marilla loved cooking and baking for her family. She was a talented chef and baker, and her meals always left you wanting more. Her famous chocolate chip cookies were her most requested dessert by family and many friends. She poured her love into everything she did, and it showed in how truly amazing her food and baked goods were. Marilla was uniquely gifted with arts and crafts; she loved decorating and event planning, creating many memorable celebrations for family and friends. Marilla loved serving her community, never forgetting those in need and always willing to give her last to ensure someone else had what they needed. She wore many hats, such as a daycare provider, teacher, nurse, and advocate for her family, loved ones, and friends.

Marilla found beauty and peace in simple life moments, never taking for granted each day she was given. She was always transparent about her journey, always pointing you to Jesus, the author and finisher of her faith. Her footprint of God’s love and wisdom she poured out to her family, friends, and those she encountered along the way, will leave a lasting and comforting legacy for years to come. Marilla understood her assignment as a soldier of Jesus Christ; she fought the good fight, finished her race, and kept the faith. She is now welcomed home to Jesus, our Savior and King, hearing the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant, well done!”.

Marilla was preceded in death by her brothers Charles Trotter Jr. and Gordon Trotter, and her parents. She is survived by her husband Robert D. Reed Jr., children Tosha Reed, Andrew Reed, Lano Reed, Precious Reed, Joshua (Brook) Reed, Crystal Reed, Mary Reed, Elizabeth (Shawn) Chambers, Sarah Reed, John Reed, Naomi (Shaun) Archer, Isaac Reed, and Jacob (Cierra) Reed, brothers Lindon (Sabrina) Trotter and Christopher Trotter, sisters Tonya (Joseph) Swain and Ruth (Russell) Williams, 30 grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
