Marie Agnes (Palkovic) Antony, 90, of Carmel passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024 at Bickford Senior Living in Carmel. She was born June 7, 1934 in Youngstown, OH, the daughter of Michael and Agnes (Masaric) Palkovic. She lived a happy childhood in Youngstown and graduated as class salutatorian from Woodrow Wilson High School. She obtained her RN degree from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Youngstown and worked in various doctors’ offices in Kokomo, Connecticut and Indianapolis over the years. She met her future husband, Kenneth Antony, on a blind date in Norfolk, VA and they married on August 17, 1957. After 47 years of marriage, he passed away in 2004.
Marie was a quiet person with a heart of gold, who lived out her Catholic faith as a volunteer blood bank organizer and migrant camp nurse in Kokomo, and hospice assistant in her later years in Indianapolis. She loved family gatherings, especially reunions, and baking her delicious kolache nut roll and pierogies, among other Slovakian and Ukrainian delicacies. She was a lifelong knitter and seamstress and was always willing to darn a sock. She thoroughly enjoyed following all her grandchildren’s activities. She had a deep love of baseball which sprouted at an early age as a Cleveland Indians fan. She was a wonderful matriarch of her family.
In addition to her husband, she was proceeded in death by her brothers Richard Palkovic and John Palkovic, and her precious and beloved granddaughter Claire Antony.
Marie is survived by her children, Lori Antony of Carmel, IN, Mike (Chris) Antony of Advance, NC, Chuck (Sue) Antony of Ruston, LA, Jenny (Gregg) Durham of Carmel, IN; grandchildren Holly (Thomas) Borders, Kyle (Jenny) Antony, Kate (Zach) White, Drew (Casey) Antony, Mitch (Emily) Antony, Mark Durham, Lily Durham; great-grandchildren KP Borders, Mila Borders, Marie Antony, Hudson Antony, Milo White, Walt White, Charlie Antony; 14 treasured nieces and nephews and a host of other extended family.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday October 5th at Saint Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Westfield, where family and friends are invited to gather from 10:00 am until the time of the Mass at 11:00 am. Following Mass, everyone is invited to join the family for a meal. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
