Marian Mae Schafer (Seils), 88, of Speedway, Indiana, passed away peacefully in the company of her beloved husband and daughters on May 15th, 2020. She was born on May 2nd, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in Huntington, Indiana. She lived in Indianapolis and Speedway, Indiana, most of her life. She graduated from Huntington High School in 1950 and attended Valparaiso University. She loved vacationing at Camp Arcadia in Michigan where she met her future husband, Albert, in 1954. They were married on July 16th, 1955 and together they had three children, Robert, Susan and Christine. She worked for Methodist Hospital for 20+ years as a surgical supply clerk. She also worked for Precision Piston Rings, Spiegel Catalog, Crockett Insurance and her father’s business. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, and singing hymns. She was very artistic and enjoyed drawing and watercolor painting for many years, even later in her life. Marian tolerated cats but her favorite were dogs. She and her husband had several throughout the years who were very close to her heart. Of all the things she loved, her family was the most dear to her. She was a wonderful, loving, stay-at-home mother when her children were growing up and instilled in them her love of God and family. Her husband, Albert, was the love of her life and, unbeknownst to most, they had decided to get married a few days after meeting. Their love affair was one for the ages. They preferred to spend time together more than anything else, and always told and showed each other how much they loved one another. They enjoyed dancing, getting together with dear friends and many family vacations to Camp Arcadia. Marian and her husband were members of Grace Lutheran Church, Messiah Lutheran Church and most recently Our Shepherd Lutheran Church. Even though her health prevented her from attending church the past few years, she enjoyed watching services on television and looked forward to the many visits from her church pastors. She will be forever missed, but family and friends are comforted that because of her strong faith in her Lord, she rests in the arms of Jesus in heaven. She is survived by her dear husband of 64 years, Albert, daughters Susan Schafer and Christine (Ron) Peters, and granddaughter, Abby. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Herbert Seils, sisters Elaine Wasmuth and Vivian Seils, and son, Robert Schafer. Her funeral will be held Saturday, May 23rd at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, located at 9201 East CR 100 North in Avon, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at noon with visitation one hour prior to the service. Hendricks County’s modified gathering restrictions will allow up to 100 guests to attend and social distancing will be observed in the sanctuary. A private burial (due to Marion County restrictions) will be at Crown Hill Cemetery following her service. Memorial contributions can be made to Camp Arcadia, 3046 Oak Street, Arcadia, Michigan 49613. The family wishes to thank Pastors Matt Douglas and Daniel Lepley, and all staff who cared for Marian at University Hospital MICU, Life’s Journey Hospice, Avon, and Flanner and Buchanan – Speedway for their dedicated care.
