Marian Lydia Frascella
December 4th, 1926 – December 8th, 2021
Marian L. Frascella passed away peacefully on December 8th at her residence in Indianapolis. She had just celebrated her 95th birthday on December 4th, surrounded by her loved ones in person and virtually.
Marian was born in 1926 in Trenton, NJ to parents Antonino Albano and Mariannina Albano (née Sarri), who emigrated to the United States from the Calabria and Sicily regions of Italy, where Marian maintained family ties throughout her life. She married her late husband John Frascella in 1971 and lived in Pennington, NJ until 2013 when she moved to Indianapolis to be closer to her family. A graduate of Trenton Central High School, she became a bookkeeper and worked as a civilian for the US military for many years at what is now Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. She finished her career at what was Parkside Memorial Home. She took great pride in her work and instilled her strong work ethic onto her son and grandsons.
Marian left an indelible impression on everyone she met. She was especially known for her sense of humor, quick wit, and practical jokes. Once while working at McGuire Air Force Base, for April Fool’s Day she placed a bowl of chocolate covered “Brazil nuts” on her desk for the top military brass to eat – only for them to find, much to their dismay, that the Brazil nuts were actually raw cloves of garlic. Between this sense of humor, her intellectual and philosophical curiosity, her knowledge of proverbs and sayings, her love of music, bowling, and playing cards, and her penchant for sparking up lively debates, it was impossible to be bored in her presence. She was also skilled in the kitchen and imparted her love of cooking and baking onto her family who still carry on the many culinary traditions of which she was so fond.
Marian was preceded in death by her aforementioned parents and husband as well as her brother, Anthony Albano. She is survived by many loving relatives and friends who will miss her dearly, in particular her son, Dr. Paul Frascella (wife Trinity) an ophthalmologist in Indianapolis and her two grandsons Daniel (wife Marie) and James Frascella of Chicago. A private celebration will be held in Indianapolis on December 12th. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that donations be made in Marian’s name to the Sons of Italy Foundation https://www.osia.org/donate-sif/
