Margie L. Brawner York

November 20, 1936 — April 15, 2017

Margie Lee (Brawner) York of Camby, Indiana went home to be with the Lord and her Heavenly Father God on April 15, 2017.

Margie was born in Lafayette, Tennessee in Macon County, to the late Jesse P. Brawner, and Rettie May (Doss) Brawner. She was a graduate of Macon County High School with honors, such as salutatorian of her graduating class. Margie attended Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Lafayette where at the age of 11-years-old she got under conviction in a revival meeting by the preaching of God’s word and drawing power of the Holy Spirit. After calling on God with humble repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ she got saved by the grace of God. Margie was baptized into the fellowship of the church by the late Elder Levi Smith. After graduation she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where she was employed by Stewart Warner where she worked as a secretary from 1956 to 1960. Margie attended beauty college and became a licensed beautician working with her sister Louise.

Margie and Nathan were united in holy matrimony on August 17, 1957 and were married 59 years and 8 months. Until death do us part was the promise we made to God in the presence of witnesses.

Margie was blessed with a wonderful son, Stephen D. York, on August 29, 1958. Steve is also an ordained minister. Steve’s wife of 35 years, Doreen Y. (Allen) York is a wonderful Christian lady. Margie was also blessed with one grandson, Jeremy N. York, an ordained minister. Jeremy is married to Kirstee (Braun) York. Jeremy and Kirstee have two sons, Samuel (4) and Daniel (1) who were Margie’s great grandson’s that she adored and what a gift from God! The scripture teaches us that there is nothing that makes you happier than to know your children are serving God.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse P. Brawner and Rettie M. (Doss) Brawner, sisters, Louise (Brawner) Hutcherson-Gregory and JoAnn (Brawner) Wix, brothers, Donald D. Brawner and George D. Brawner.

Survivors include her husband, Elder Nathan York; son, Elder Stephen D. York (Doreen); grandson, Elder Jeremy N. York (Kirstee); great-grandsons, Samuel and Daniel. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who she loved very much.

We look forward to meeting her again someday and being reunited with her if we have been born again by God’s grace. “What a Meeting in the Air” and live forever in Heaven. Don’t you want to go?

Margie was a member of Outreach Missionary Baptist Church in Camby, Indiana, where she remained a faithful member. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Lodge #159 for the last 48 years.

Margie was faithful wife, wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was truly qualified, according to Proverbs 31:10, a virtuous woman. Literally a wife of valor and worth.

Written by her loving husband, Elder Nathan York, per Margie’s request.
