Margene Marie Woodall, 82, of Monticello, Indiana, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023, in Indianapolis.

Margene was born August 10, 1940, in Reynolds, Indiana, to the late Carlyn “Shorty” and Vaynetta (Matthews) Holeman. She was married for 50 years to her loving husband, the late Gerald Lee Woodall, whom she married on March 13, 1966 in Reynolds.

Margene worked at Purdue University and later worked in several roles at AMF Raceway Lanes in Speedway, Indiana. The work she most enjoyed, however, was caring for children, whether it was her own children, those she babysat or those in the nursery at West Pines Baptist Church in Avon, Indiana, where she was a member.

She also enjoyed solving crossword and brick-by-brick puzzles, and she loved country music and particularly the music of Randy Travis.

Margene is survived by three children, Thomas Lee Woodall of Greenwood, Indiana; Wendy Robin (Michael) Marsee of Junction City, Kentucky; and Gregory Steven (Brandee) Woodall of Greenfield, Indiana; four grandchildren, Brittany Hall, Zachary Woodall, Allison Woodall, Emilee (Brayden) Stephen; and three great-grandchildren, Natalie Grace Woodall, Kennedy Paige Stephen and Damien Alexander Woodall.

Margene is also survived by two brothers, Dale (Amanda) Holeman of Monticello, Indiana; and Jim (Lisa) Holeman of Brookston, Indiana. She is preceded in death by two sisters, Velma Jean Holeman and Sharon (Gary) Nichols, a brother, Carl (Pat) Holeman, and other close family members including uncles Vaughn Matthews and Leonard Matthews.

Margene is also survived by special friend Jeannie Walker of Clermont, Indiana, and preceded in death by another special friend, Betty Sauter.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, August 4, at Flanner Buchanan-Speedway. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m., led by the Rev. Tom Graef and the Rev. Marc Dowler, with burial to follow at West Ridge Park Cemetery.
