Margaret Mary Martin, 95, went home to be with her Lord February 15, 2023. She was the daughter of John Meinrad and Margaret Veronica (Barrett) Laker. She attended Holy Cross Catholic School and St. Mary Academy. She was a longtime member of St. Andrew Catholic Church where she enjoyed the activities of the Half Century Club.
Margaret (Marge)was an employee of Arlington High School cafeteria services as a cashier and baker. She spoiled the students with her buttermilk pies and cream puffs. Her favorite pastimes included Colts games as a season ticket holder, Pacers, Boston Celtics and college basketball. She was particularly fond of Larry Bird, closely following his entire career. Indianapolis Indians games with her children and grandchildren became a tradition everyone enjoyed when she reveled in the seventh inning stretch and danced to YMCA! Manicuring her beautiful lawn and planting her flower beds were a passion that filled her summer.
She was the devoted wife of John R. Martin whom she married on July 4th, 1950.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband (John) siblings Florence Mattingly, Ruth Buennagel and John Joseph Laker as well as her daughter, Maryanne Dezelan with whom she shared a birthday. Survivors include children, Michael Martin (Joan), Kathleen Ansty, Thomas Martin (Colleen), Elizabeth Collins (Ronnie), Jean Garriott (Brian) and son-in-law, Ronald Dezelan (Nancy), 15 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine Home, 2345 W.86th St. Indianapolis IN 46260. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11am at St. Augustine Wednesday March 1st, with visitation 1 hour prior. She will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.
