Margaret Gale “Peggie” Warrenburg, 76, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away September 16, 2019. She was born to the late Harold C. and Lillian H. Hildum, in Hempstead, New York. After completing high school, she went on to receive her Associates degree in nursing.
Peggie was a committed registered nurse and dedicated over thirty years to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
“Mimi” as she was affectionately referred to by her family, was absolutely the best. To know her is to love her. Her family always came first. She would drop everything to be there for them regardless of the circumstances. She was a good listener, always providing the best advice, loyal, trustworthy, honest and fun. Her smile and laugh radiated her personality. She was an amazing example of what unconditional love looks like.
These qualities were also extended to her friends who loved hearing her “Honey” stories. She was an adventurous soul always ready for any opportunity to have fun and make memories. She remained friends with many from her Long Island roots as far back as grade school. Her girlfriends Judy, Jean, Patty Belle and Patty Ann and their families.
You could never be sure what costume she may show up in. Such characters as Santa, Mrs. Claus, an old granny complete with blacked out teeth and bonnet when she showed up at the high school for her granddaughter Jessica’s sixteenth birthday in the “chicken-mobile.” And yes, even once dressed as a “hooker” on Honey’s last day at Ford. She also had such class and poise and was the most beautiful woman in attendance (besides the bride of course) at her granddaughter Chelsea’s wedding less than 2 years ago. She was on the dance floor out dancing everyone in her 3” heels.
Speaking of Honey when he wanted to take a 3 week trip out West she jumped in 110%. She purchased chaps, cowgirl hat and all things western despite the fact she was worried how she would be able to get a manicure on this adventure. She and Honey were the founding members of the Indianapolis Thunderbird Club. Once again she jumped in 110%.
After Honey passed she and her best friend Jerri purchased a huge RV and immediately drove it to Long Island along with several other places. She later traded it for a more stationary dwelling in St. Augustine, Florida where she made many new friends whose lives she touched. She met her boyfriend Billy 10 years ago and they began to split their time between Indiana, Florida and his home in Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay. They enjoyed sailing on his boat and she became his co-captain on many sailing adventures including an unforgettable trip from Virginia to the Bahamas. He became a huge part of her family. A few of her other adventures included a Segway journey for her 70th birthday with her family and Billy, along with zip lining and a sling shot experience with Jerri and Dawn.
She will be deeply missed by so many. Her absence will be a huge unfillable void. We will cherish and keep our memories with her alive and continue to look at her examples that she set. She will be remembered for her smile, kindness, generosity, class, comforting hugs and bravery that she demonstrated to the very end.
Our hearts are broken, but we know a heart that is broken is a heart that’s been loved.
Peggie is survived by her partner of ten years, Billy Wakefield; adoring children, Timothy H. Carrino, Shelli K. (Jimmy) Engle, and Brad A. (Hetty) Warrenburg; and granddaughters, Jessica Engle (Jessi Ely) and Chelsea (Matt) Engle-Guy.
Peggie is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry “Honey the Clown” A. Warrenburg ; and sons Curt A. Warrenburg and Lance A. Warrenburg.
