MARGARET GLEASON SKROMME of Hoosier Village in Zionsville, Indiana passed away peacefully on September 29, 2017. She was preceded in death by her college sweetheart and husband of 73 years Lawrence H. Skromme. Margaret was born in Waterloo, Iowa, to the late Max and Leila Gleason. She graduated from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa in 1938 with a B.S degree in Home Economics Education.
Margaret was a long-time resident of Lancaster, PA where she and Lawrence made their home overlooking the Conestoga River. Margaret was an avid gardener, bird lover and antique collector. She was also active in Grandview United Methodist Church. Margaret loved people and her infectious smile made her friends wherever she would go. Most of all, Margaret loved being with her family, even traveling to two family reunions after she turned 100.
She is survived by her daughters, Cherlyn Granrose, PhD of Athens, GA, Inga (Jerry) Hill, PhD of Indianapolis, IN and Hon. Karen (Anthony) Sequino of Woodbridge, CT. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a lifetime of friends. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Kathleen Granrose and her siblings, Maxine (Milton) Dobrin, Marie (Dean) Andersen, Beal (Dean) Gleason and LeAnne (Jim) Smittkamp.
Her service will be Sunday, October 8 at Hoosier Village Chapel, 5300 W 96th St., Indianapolis, IN, visitation at 12:30 PM and service at 1:30 PM. She will be buried in Kelly, Iowa beside her beloved Lawrence.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Grandview United Methodist Church, 888 Pleasure Rd, Lancaster, PA 17601 or the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
