Margaret E. Charters, 104, of Franklin, Indiana, passed away peacefully December 14th, 2020. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 11th, 1916 to parents the late Oscar and Ora (McMullen) Massey.
Margaret graduated with her bachelor’s degree from Butler University in 1937, where she studied history. During college, she was a proud member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Margaret remained an involved, valued member of Alpha Chi Omega after graduation.
On July 4th, 1942, she married the love of her life, Clyde C. Charters. They shared 44 wonderful years together. Clyde passed away in 1986.
Margaret worked as a receptionist for Weight Watchers for many years, until “retiring” at the age of 94.
Margaret was a loving, outgoing woman. She loved music and played piano at the church she attended for many years. When her children were younger, she enjoyed being a den mother for her son’s Boy Scout troop. Margaret also enjoyed hosting family gatherings for the Indy 500 each year, as a fun excuse to get everyone together. She adored her family and will be sorely missed by all.
She is survived by her loving children, Sharon Charters and Edward (Rita) Charters; grandchildren Edward Andrew II, and Jessica Ann Charters; great-grandchildren Abigail Hodge, and Andrea Davis; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde C. Charters.
Margaret’s funeral service will be Monday, December 21st, 2020, at 10am, at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East. She will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
