Margaret Ann Hill, 94, of Indianapolis, IN passed away June 18, 2020. She was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on May 22, 1926 to the late Howard R. and Bess Dixon.
After completing high school, Margaret went on to graduate from University of Iowa School of Nursing, then called Cadet Nursing and dedicated her career to caring for others. On her birthday of May 22nd 1948, she married her soul mate, Robert R. Hill, they moved to Indianapolis for job opportunity and their family grew. They raised their four children in the Indianapolis area. She returned to the work force as an RN at Community East in 1967 as a labor and delivery nurse. After several years, she transferred to Post-Op Recovery Care where she retired in 1988. She and Robert loved their family and were able to have a lake house on Sweetwater Lake where weekends were filled with their children and soon their grandchildren enjoying the beauty of nature. She often kept watch of the beautiful birds that frequented her feeders. Peggy was an avid knitter, knitting afghans for the newly wedded children and then when the grandchildren were born, she made very special Christmas sweaters and vests for them. Bob and Peggy would travel to Hawaii every year to marvel at the beauty of the island. They also took the cruise through the Panama canal. The two of them together provided a childhood that resonates in our children and grandchildren. Peggy and Bob enjoyed the relationships with their dogs to the fullest degree. Everyone wanted to come back as one of the Hill dogs. Each one lifted their spirits whenever they were down. Smudge, Pudgy, Annie, Butch, Dusty, Norman, AJ and Peyton all part of our family.
She is survived by her children, Stephen D. Hill (wife Beth), Bobbe Wesseldine (husband Mark) Kathy J Edwards (husband Richard) and David C. Hill (wife Renee). Grandchildren, Michael Hill, Ben Hill, Amy Lykins-Mellors, Scott Lykins, Katie Mancinelli, Meridith Edwards, Christopher Hill and Andrew Hill, as well as 8 great-grandchildren.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents Howard and Bess Dixon, brother Howard Dixon Jr., grandson Nathan James Edwards and the love of her life, Bob.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Auguste’s Cottage at Rosegate Village for their outstanding care and who were devastated by the ongoing health concern. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gift cards to grocery stores and/or variety stores to help the staff regain some normalcy. Gift cards may be sent to Rosegate Village, Director of Nursing, Sylvia Higginbotham, 7510 Rosegate Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46237. Donations to the Humane Society would also be appreciated.
