Marcia L. Semones

February 15, 1936 — December 12, 2021

Indianapolis, IN

Marcia L. Semones, 85, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on December 12, 2021. She was born on February 15, 1936, in St. Paul, Indiana, to the late George and Isabelle Lewis.

Marcia grew up in Danville, Indiana and graduated from Danville High School.  There she met her husband, the late Forrest Semones (1995).  Marcia grew up in rural Danville where she spent hours with her horse, Trigger, as well as with many cats and dogs.

Marcia was a strong student and attended Radcliffe College in Cambridge, Massachusetts and George Washington University in Washington, DC, earning a degree in English literature.  After her freshman year at college in 1955, Marcia and Forrest married and eventually settled down in Indianapolis.  Marcia taught in the Brownsburg elementary school system in the 1960s.  Later, after raising children and receiving a master’s degree in Education from Butler University, Marcia taught in the elementary gifted program at Washington Township schools until she retired.

Marcia, and her husband, Forrest, enjoyed the out of doors, especially bird watching and nature walks.  They worked together tirelessly in their yard and garden and enjoyed nearly 40 happy years of marriage.  Marcia was a Girl Scout Troop leader for several years as well as a docent at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.  Marcia loved to share her English literature background and her deep passion for poetry with her students.

In her later years, after a high school reunion, Marcia reconnected with an old friend from Danville, Ed Rader.  Ed and Marcia became dear and constant companions.  They enjoyed many dinners and movies together, and Ed brought her much happiness.

Marcia is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Chappell and Rebecca Scheumann, her respective sons-in-law Todd Chappell and David Scheumann; her grandchildren Devin Chappell, Jacob Chappell and Monica Mitchem; her grandson-in-law Steven Mitchem; and her great-granddaughter Claire Mitchem.

Private services are entrusted to Flanner Buchanan – Broad Ripple.
