Marchetta “Nan” Violet Burcham

Marchetta Violet (Mann) Burcham 93 of Greenfield, Indiana passed away peacefully on November 24, 2019 surrounded by loving members of her family.  Marcy was born on May 30, 1926 in Johnson County, Indiana to parents William Mann and Flora (Richards) Mann Carder.  Over the course of her lifetime Marcy overcame many obstacles including Rheumatic Fever.

Marcy started working in a restaurant at the young age of 14 during the great depression, Marcy was a hard worker who learned to make the best of hard times.  She also worked at Woolworth and a few other jobs but the job she was most proud of was that of a Switchboard Operator in Edinburg, Indiana.  Marcy would often recall stories of listening to her children, Connie, Willie and Barb on the phone during her shifts. They would get caught if they ever tried to make a prank call or spent too much time on the phone.

Marcy was just 17 when she married the love of her life Charles W. Burcham in Greene County, Indiana.  They were married for 52 years before his death in 1995.  During her lifetime, Marcy enjoyed her life as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoyed attending Shrine events with the Legion of Honor and the Banjo Band, she was an avid reader, enjoyed Indianapolis Fever Basketball and any events that involved her grandchildren.

Marcy “Nan” will be greatly missed by her surviving family; children Connie Jones and Barbara Burcham-Balt (Christine). Brother-in-Law Ted Burcham. Grandchildren Tammie Sparks (Andy), Laurie Chilcote (Larry), Aaron Burcham (Tabatha), and Steven Burcham (Deborah).  Great Grandchildren Sarah Richardson (Aaron), Colleen Nungesser (Micah), Cody Sparks (Lauren), Shane Sparks (Amanda), Jesse Reed (Kayla), Kyle Chilcote, Madi Pusateri (Kevin), and Kayla Kindell (Joshua). Great-Great Grandchildren Ayden Alley, Claire Richardson, Scarlett Reed, Lily Richardson, Adalynn Pusateri, Sophia Richardson, Violett Nugesser, Samson Nungesser, Caitlin Burcham and Sidonna Burcham.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; sisters Barbara Mann and Beulah Massey, her husband Charles W. Burcham, and son Willie Burcham.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 30, from 10am to 12pm at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East.  There will be a service to follow at 12pm, also at the funeral home.  Entombment will be family only at Washington Park North Cemetery.
