Mairin Therese Foley lived a full life as a wife, mother, grandmother, businessperson, military spouse and Army award winning leader for military wives, and artist. She was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on January 15th, 1946, and grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan and attended Marygrove College in Detroit. She moved to Indiana to get married and completed her B.A. degree in Fine Arts and Art History from the College of Arts and Sciences, Indiana University Bloomington in 1969. She married now retired Colonel William A. Foley Jr., Ph.D. on December 10, 1966, and they had two children together, William Michael Foley and Sonya Therese Foley.
Mairin raised her children in Indiana and Massachusetts, and first worked at Data Indexing System Corporation in Bloomington Indiana, and after at the Cambridge Trust Bank in Cambridge, MA. Following she owned and operated an early childcare center in Cambridge and Lexington, MA after receiving her professional certification at Harvard University for licensing in the state of Massachusetts. She subsequently worked for the State of Indiana with the Family Social Services Administration (FSSA) for several years in their SNAP Food Stamp Distribution Program receiving a Commendation from then Indiana Governor Evan Bayh.
Mairin was a talented artist; her passion for making handmade cards, dresses, and her knowledge of fine arts inspired her loved ones. She was an avid animal lover and loved as well to travel to Europe in summers while she taught National Security college courses. Her grandchildren describe her as loving, animated, creative, affectionate, caring, artistic, and witty, and my grandma.
She is survived by her husband Bill, her two children Bill and Sonya, their wonderful spouses and her many delightful and cherished grandchildren.
Friends and family may call from 5pm until 8pm on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 E. Carmel Drive, Carmel, IN 46032. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 3rd beginning at 10am at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral, 1347 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
