Lynn Wesley Hammonds, M.D.
Lynn “Doc” Wesley Hammonds, M.D. passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is survived by his mother (Anna Faurot), sisters (Roberta Dials and Beverley Cook), his wife (Marilyn Hammonds), his children (Kim Spratt and Jim Pritz, Kevin Gabriel, Michael and Nicole Thomas, Laura Hammonds), his grandchildren (Ryan Pritz, Andrew Pritz, Emily Thomas, Gabriel Thomas, Nathan Thomas), his great-grandchild (Claire Pritz) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dr. Hammonds finished his first semester at Manchester College and then enlisted in the United States Army on November 24, 1965. He served two tours of duty as a medic in The Republic of Vietnam from January 1, 1967 to August 14, 1968. The U.S. Army awarded him ten Air Medals.
He then attended Manchester College’s pre-med program and continued at Indiana University’s School of Medicine. He completed a family practice residency at St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend, Indiana. He served first as a family physician, then as an emergency room physician.
He was active in: The American Legion, The National Rifle Association, American Huey 369, and The Agent Orange Health Club.
He will be remembered for his generosity, sense of humor, service to others, warmth, loyalty, gentleness, adventurousness, laughter, forgiveness, inventiveness, collections, impulsivity, brilliance, love of family, and heroism.
A funeral service will be 3:00pm on Friday, September 28, 2018 with visitation to follow from 4:00-8:00pm at Flanner Buchanan- Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis IN 46229.
