Lura Mae Mann

October 8, 1925 — May 22, 2022

Indianapolis, IN

Lura Mae (Johnson) Mann, 96, went to be with her personal Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 22, 2022. Lura Mae was born in Scottsville, Kentucky on October 8, 1925. She was the third child and first daughter of the late William Radford Johnson and Leona (Bridgeman) Johnson. She worked at the overall factory in Scottsville for a short time. Lura Mae married Willard Dean Mann on November 19, 1945. They decided to move to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1946 because jobs were more plentiful there. They were blessed with two sons, Ricky Dean Mann, and Gary Neal Mann; and one daughter, Stacy Jo Mann Trenum (Dan).

Lura was a homemaker as well as an Avon Lady for a short time. She started her career in food service by working with her sister, Thelma Ruth Lanham at IPS #50 as a lunch lady. She then began a career with Wayne Township Schools in 1981 as a lunch lady at Rhoades Elementary. She was affectionately known as “Grandma” to all of the children in the school. Lura retired from Wayne Township Schools in 1999, however, she didn’t slow down. She became more involved in her church, Chapel Rock Christian Church, as well as being a fulltime Grandma and eventually Great-Grandma.

Lura’s Christian journey began as a child in Scottsville, Kentucky at Pleasant Grove General Baptist Church. She was baptized in a nearby creek at a young age. She continued her Christian life by joining Chapel Rock Christian Church on December 23, 1995, however, she had already been a regular attendee for several years. Lura became a steadfast volunteer in several different ministries. She was especially known in the Chapel Rockets retirement group for bringing her delicious pea salad. Lura always had a smile and loved to greet anyone who crossed her path.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Dean Mann; siblings, Lond Mac Johnson, Derwood Johnson, Mary Lois Centers, W.R. Johnson, and Thelma Ruth Lanham; great-granddaughters, Haylie Mariá Trenum, and Aubrey Nicole Allen. She is survived by her children, Ricky Dean Mann, Gary Neal Mann, and Stacy Jo (Mann) Trenum (Dan); grandchildren, Eric Neal Mann (Wendi), Nathaniel Lee Trenum (Rita), Jennifer Marie Allen, Jamie Ryan Mann (Ashley), Christina René Smock (Brian), Shelly Ann Trenum (Tomas), and Alexander Harrison Trenum; great-grandchildren, Colin Montgomery Mann, Gabriel Christian Allen, Olivia Josephine Reagan, Madeline Violet Smock, Landon David Smock, Lurayna Nicole Cuautle, Grayson David-Lee Trenum, Julian Tomas Cuautle, Piper Rose Smock, and Bennett Scott Trenum.
