Lucille (Lucy) Huckleberry, age 85, passed away peacefully August 4, 2017. Lucille was born May 5, 1932 in Portland, Oregon. Her parents (Harry and Martha Moon Cogle) returned to Indiana in 1938 and became lifelong residents of the Indianapolis Westside. She graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1950, was married in 1952 and raised two children. She served as an active participant and leader for multiple service organizations including Camp Fire Girls, Boys Scouts and PTO/PTA of her children’s schools. She was a cheerful, loving, independent woman who cared for her family and friends and was a constant source of encouragement and support to all. Lucy was a lifelong member of Lynhurst Baptist Church and served for over 30 years as the church secretary for Fleming Garden Christian Church, retiring in 1997.
Lucy loved sports and had an expert knowledge of baseball. She loved to play cards and board games. She always looked forward to the Christmas holiday (especially the decorating) and took great pride in planning her 50th high school reunion. Go Giants!
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, F.R. (Huck) Huckleberry, daughter Cathy Huckleberry, son Chris Huckleberry and his wife Laurelanne, grandchildren Joseph Roundtree and Rebecca Roundtree, best family friends LaVonne and John, and her high school girlfriends Shirley, Barbara, Shirley and Carolyn. She will be dearly missed by so many good people.
Friends may call Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 11 am-2 pm with services at 2 pm at Flanner and Buchanan—Floral Park, 425 N Holt Rd. 46222. Lucy will be laid to rest at Floral Park Cemetery immediately following services.
