Lowell “Gene” Hammil
74, of Indianapolis, passed away April 29, 2018. He was born on September 15, 1943 in Indianapolis as the son of Lowell Maurice and Mary Louise Hammil.
After graduating high school, Gene enlisted in the United States Navy where he served multiple years. During his years of service, Gene fought for our country in Vietnam and was able to use his fluency in Vietnamese to help protect his country. After his service in the military Gene worked as a Geologist for the government for 30 years. During his spare time Gene had a love for several different activities. First, he loved animals and especially his dogs. He was an avid model car and train collector and even has a room in his home dedicated to trains and model cars. Gene always enjoyed working on things around the house and trying to fix whatever needed it. Golfing was another one of Gene’s favorite past times, where him and his wife, Dianna, would enjoy playing and driving the golf cart together.
Gene is survived by his wife of 16 years, Dianna Hammil and step-son Ralph Kennard.
He was proceeded in death by his parents.
There will be a private family graveside service at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park North Cemetery.
