Susie walked through life with unwavering faith and love. She always trusted in the Lord with all
her heart and knew that he would always be there to direct her life’s path. Susie was a believer
in all of God’s wonders; from the stars to the mountains and roaring oceans, she always
admired the Lord and his creations. Her favorite bible verses were Proverbs 3:5&6, “Trust in the
Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways
acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths” John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he
gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
She devoted her life to Jesus, family, and friends. She had a loving, infectious smile that would
make anyone she came into contact with feel comforted and loved. She had a big heart and
would always pray for anyone in need. Her prayers were so heartfelt and profound; she was
chosen by Mike of Big Daddy Weave and Darren of We Are Messengers to pray over and bless
an auditorium full of believers attending the concert. She was honored to have had the
opportunity to share her love of Jesus with everyone.
Susie’s story began in the Tennessee mountains and ended in Indianapolis; however, she
would always be a Tennessee girl at heart. Her southern drawl would thicken if she spoke with
another southerner, and she would mention how proud she was to be a Tennessee girl. Susie
was a hard worker; She worked for more than 30 years at the same company. Among being a
hard worker, she was a loving mother to her children. She always said her children were the
best part of her life, and she would always pray for them and their children every morning and
evening.
She had a love of music like no other! Her favorite songs to listen to were One Night With You
by Elvis Presley, Only You by The Platters, Work Out by Jackie Wilson, My Story by Big Daddy
Weave, and Going Away Party by Bill and Gloria Gaither. Susie would always dance around
and sing any chance she got would always encourage others to join. She enjoyed hiking trails,
reading books, writing poetry, watching TV and movies. Her favorite books to read were Little
Women and The Box Car Children series. She loved to curl up on the couch and watch the
films: Jailhouse Rock, Sunny Side Up, and Small Town Girl.
She always shared the humorous story about her first time seeing Elvis on television with her
children and grandchildren. A big grin would fill her face as she mentioned that she fainted the
moment she saw Elvis singing. Thus, her love for Elvis began; she would become one of his
biggest fans and travel to Graceland whenever she got the chance.
Susie loved to talk about her mother, Lockie. She always said her mother was her inspiration.
Her mother taught her about Jesus and cooking. In a conversation with a grandchild, Susie said,
“I figured it out…why everyone loved your great-grandma like she was, and it is because she
never said nothing bad about anybody, even though they did her wrong and talked about her.
She would just give it to the Lord and prayed about it and smiled at them, and loved them
anyway and went on. That’s what you do; you just go on.” “ Be kind to one another, tender-hearted,
forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:32.
She has long-awaited to be reunited with her mother, daughter Faith Lynn, brothers, and other
loved ones. The memories Susie etched on the hearts of her friends and family will always
remain. She will always be loved and remembered as a strong woman who loved Jesus and
family above all.
Susie will be greatly missed by her loving children Anthony Bratcher (Lesley), Teresa Bennett
(James), Robbie Bratcher (Shelly), Linda Bratcher-Diaz (Eddie), Barbara Wheeler (Kenny), and
Jerry (Pookie) Wilson Jr. (Rhonda), many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren
