Lottie Helen Litherland Stock departed this world Tuesday, January 17th, 2023, 95 years and four months from the day she entered it. Lottie loved life, and her joy came through in her bright blue eyes and ready smile. Twice-widowed, Lottie was known for her adaptability and optimism.
She was born in South Bend, IN, September 18th, 1927, to Josef and Catherine (Bazan) Kurowski. Lottie graduated from Washington High School. She met Verne Litherland at a dance in South Bend and they were married in the summer of 1951. Verne passed away just 11 years later at age 39. Their four children survive her: Kenny (Denise) Litherland, Robert “Tony” Litherland, Jack Litherland, and Donna Litherland. Lottie’s six grandchildren: Chad (Shelly) Litherland, Lindsay (Ryan) Romeril, Jenna Litherland, Chase Litherland, Brooke (Chris) Merkel and Kali Litherland, survive her as well, along with their children, Lottie’s great grandchildren: Amelia, Avery, Alec, Max, Saylor and Emma. Lottie’s re-marriage to Walter Stock in 1964 lasted until his death in 1998.
Lottie’s Polish heritage emerged in stories and exemplary cooking skills passed down to each of her children. She was as skilled at baking and decorating cakes as she was making polish sausage and stuffed cabbage. Lottie loved sewing, gardening and a good cup of coffee at any time of the day or night. She adored babies, and showered love on those within her family.
The entire family is grateful to St Augustine Home for Aged in Indianapolis, which provided loving care to Lottie until the day she passed.
Visitation will take place at St Augustine, 2345 W 86th St., Thursday, January 26th, from 4 until 7 p.m. Visitation resumes at St. Augustine on Friday, January 27th, at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial in the chapel at 10:30 a.m. There will be a private burial in South Bend.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St Augustine’s Home for the Aged.
