Loretta Jean Works

Loretta Jean Works, 84, of Indianapolis, passed away October 6. 2019. She was born February 11, 1935 in Indianapolis, Indiana to James and Marie Mitchell; she was one of seven children.

She was married to Lawrence A. McMasters, a childhood friend, in 1951. Sadly, Lawrence passed in 1955 after serving in the Navy. The two shared three young daughters.  Loretta was lucky enough to find love a second time, she married Audie Jr Works in 1958. The pair added three more children to their family and spent 13 beautiful years together until his passing in 1971. Loretta was primarily a homemaker during her life, though she did attend beauty school in the 70s where she became a hairdresser for many years. She was amazingly talented. She loved to sew, quilt, crochet and create art; she had a knack for drawing and painting, especially landscapes and still-life. She was an amateur genealogist who loved reading Stephen King novels and watching boxing matches, where she would call her sister Mary on the phone to talk about the match. Loretta’s passing leaves an empty space in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to meet her; she was truly one of a kind and will be missed by all who were touched by her love.

Loretta is preceded in death by her parents, James and Marie; husband, Lawrence McMasters; husband, Audie Jr Works; daughter Jeanie Heath; sisters, Mary and Margaret; brother, Gary; sisters-in-law, Barb, Karen, and Shirley; and brother-in-law, Monnie. Surviving to cherish her memory are children, Lois McMasters, Cheryl (Larry) Myers, Ray Works, Angela (Bill) Brown, Audie (Laurie) Works; brothers, Richard and James; sister, Sharon; son-in-law, Phil; grandchildren, Glenn Myers, Geoffrey Myers, Andrew Heath, Michael Heath, Carrie YBarra, Brandy Works, David (Carrie) Brown, Carol (JP) Sinclair, Kaitlin Works, and Amanda Works; 6 great-grandchildren as well as a host of extended family members and friends.

All are welcome to visit Thursday, October 10 from 10-12 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Floral Park, 425 N Holt Road, Indianapolis, IN 46222 with funeral services beginning at 12 PM. She will be laid to rest at 1 PM at West Ridge Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Loretta’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
