Lonnie Radford, also known as, “Vamp” in his teen years, was the first born son to the late Rev. Forrie and Ernestine Radford; born on June 21, 1943 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
Lonnie accepted Christ as his savior during his youth when he joined New Light Baptist Church. Years later, he joined Nu Corinthian Baptist Church where he faithfully attended until God Called him home.
He also spent his time helping and serving others, as he enjoyed and often talked about serving in the food pantry ministry.
He attended the historical Oscar McCullough School #5 on West Washington Street now residing in the Eiteljorg Museum downtown. He attended George Washington High School where he excelled in athletics setting records in track and cross country.
He was a member of the elite Continental Aires singing group and the Boy Scouts.
Lonnie always kept a job starting with a paper route in elementary school, Kroger and General Hospital during high school. After graduation he joined the US Army where he served as a Medic in Germany caring for sick soldiers.
Upon returning from the military, he started his career at Allison Transmission where he retired after 40 years of service.
He welcomed his son Lonnie Brent in 1970. He loved and cared for him raising him into adulthood. Lonnie departed this life at 80 years of age on Easter Sunday after church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Forrie and Ernestine Radford and his sister Velma Hoskins. He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Lonnie Brent Radford (Nicole), Josh Taylor who he loved and provided for like his son; grandchildren, Christina, Lonnie Jr. Niko, Demetrius, and Lehla; and great granddaughter Ja'Lyn; one brother, George (Cindy) Radford; a sister Corliss (Derk) White: a host of nephews and nieces, family and friends.
