Lona Lee Hammond

Lona Lee Hammond, 82, Indianapolis, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 9, 2016. She was born in Clinton, IN to Rev. Leslie and Thelma Beard. After graduating from Clinton High School in 1952, she went on to work as a medical transcriber for St. Vincent Hospital, where she retired after 22 years. Lona met and married the love of her life, Harmon Hammond, Sr. They spent 55 years together. Mrs. Hammond was a member of Zion Tabernacle Apostolic Faith Church for over 50 years where she enjoyed bible study, volunteered at the food pantry, and taught Sunday School for many years. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, William Beard, sister, Patricia Knight, children, Pete Hammond and Chris Hammond, and grandson, Brian McCurry. Survivors include her brother, Larry Beard, sister, Carolyn Shorter, children, Brenda Wicker and Patty Weber, and granddaughter, Patricia McCurry. Visitation will be held Saturday at Zion Tabernacle Apostolic Church from 12-1pm, with funeral services beginning there at 1pm.
