Lolita Dolar, 84, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on July 25, 2024. She was born on June25, 1940, in Santa Barbara, Iloilo, Philippines, to parents, Patrocinio Viejon and Matea (Jativa)Viejon. Patrocinio died during the war and Matea supported the family as a teacher and never remarried.
The second youngest of 4 siblings, she had two older brothers (twins), Arturo and Amado, and a younger brother, Patrocinio Jr. She attended elementary (grade) school at Sta. Barbara Central Elementary School. She started her first year of high school (secondary school) at Central Philippine University, although due to financial constraints she ended up completing high school at Sta. Barbara Central High School.
She was admitted into the Education Program at Iloilo Normal School, now known as West Visayas State University, one of the most prominent institutions in the Philippines in the field of Teaching, Education, Nursing and Medicine. After graduation, she spent a few years teaching at Buyahon, a smaller community within Sta. Barbara. She eventually found herself back at teaching at her grade school alma mater, Sta. Barbara Central Elementary School.
She married the love of her life, Santiago Dolar, on December 20, 1969. There were eventually blessed with two kids, Mariathea and James.
She was accepted into a graduate program for teachers at Rizal Memorial in Manila, Philippines. She eventually returned to Iloilo specializing in Physical Education. She taught Physical Education and Art at Sta. Barbara Central Elementary School until her retirement in 1995.
She was known to be strict but fair, and was very well loved by her students. Throughout her career as a teacher, Lolita inspired countless students with her passion for learning and nurturing spirit. Her commitment to shaping young minds left a lasting impact on all those who had the privilege of being her students.
She was a loving wife and mother, and a thoughtful and caring friend. She was an avid dog lover, and had a posse of adorable fur babies who just love to snuggle with her. She is one of the rare breed of people who got along well with everyone and somehow fit in any social situation. Her gentle spirit put you at ease and welcomed you as a friend - unless you’re stuck in a haggling war with her then you’re on your own. She was a ruthless and effective negotiator behind a disarmingly charming smile which never failed to light up a room. She will be sorely missed.
