Lois Jane Huffman, 79, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away Friday, September 11, 2020. She was born in Columbus, IN on July 9, 1941.
Lois graduated from Columbus North High School and earned her undergraduate degree from Ball State Teachers College (now University) and masters from Indiana University in Bloomington.
Surviving are daughters Darla (Huffman) Pettit and D’Ann Huffman; 5 grandchildren Hayden (Hammersley) Barnack, Garrett Hammersley, Gabrielle Hammersley, Genevieve Pettit, Joe Pettit and 2 great-grandchildren (Olivia and Rowan). Married (Divorced) Samuel F. Huffman. Sister Patricia (Dick) Merritt, Brother Gary (Carol) Wilbur, sister-in-law Jean (Merrell) Wilbur, seven nephews and one niece. She also was preceded in death by her parents (Kenneth E. Wilbur and Esther Lois (Littiken) Wilbur and one brother (James Wilbur).
She retired from Warren Central High School (Indianapolis) where she enjoyed meeting and serving students as a counselor. Lois saw the potential in every student and encouraged them to follow their dreams.
She loved her home on Geist reservoir, the beach in Englewood, FL and time with her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well her siblings, niece, nephews and friends. Lois especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren excel in their many activities, her high school reunions and spending time in the sun and on her boat.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Warren Arts and Education Foundation, In memory of Lois Huffman, 975 N. Post Road, Indianapolis, IN 46219 to honor her memory and the many students she served.
