Lois Joann Buckner died on March 15th, 2023. Lois was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on April 3rd, 1935, to Marvin Huff and Gayle (Ooley) Huff.
She grew up in Greene County, Indiana, eventually marrying Miles Buckner and moving to Indianapolis.
She worked as a secretary, in a meat packing plant and as a real estate agent. At the age of 50, she obtained her GED and decided to pursue a career in nursing, devoting more than 20 years as a registered nurse.
Lois was always a caregiver, both formally and informally. For many years, she assisted the elderly and infirm with transportation, ensuring that they could attend Bible study meetings, and conventions. On one occasion, she solely arranged for a New York City tour, complete with Broadway show, for 4 of her friends—2 of whom were confined to wheelchairs, 1 of whom was legally blind and deaf, and 1 who was an octogenarian.
In addition, she provided nursing support for her mother, her husband, and her sister-in-law during extended illnesses, as well as multiple friends.
Lois was a member of the Arlington Heights Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Miles Buckner, and is survived by her son, Ward (Ginger) Buckner, her sister, Myrna Babb, and nephew, Joe Karl. A memorial service will be held pending final arrangements.
