Linda L. Handlon

July 25, 1944 — August 17, 2024

Greenfield

Linda Lee Handlon of Greenfield, Indiana, a beacon of warmth and love, passed away on August 17, 2024, at Hancock Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with kidney disease. She was surrounded by her devoted family during her final moments, a testament to the deep bonds she fostered throughout her life.

Linda was born on July 25, 1944, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to Clayborn M. and Juanita F. Henry. As an only child, she was surrounded by the love of her parents, grandparents, and cousins, and later moved to Evansville, IN, before settling in Indianapolis. Her Midwestern upbringing instilled in her the values of kindness, resilience, and community that she carried with her throughout her life.

A proud graduate of Warren Central High School, class of 1962, Linda married her high school sweetheart, James, in 1966, after he completed his service in the U.S. Air Force. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to enduring love, celebrated in an intimate ceremony at their home. Together, they raised one son, Richard Scott, who was the light of their lives.

Linda's professional journey took her through various roles, from American States Insurance to Jenn-Air, and ultimately to Clarion Health, where she retired. Yet, it was her life outside of work that truly defined her. Linda had a passion for ceramics, a sharp mind for crossword puzzles, and a love for classic game shows, particularly those on the Game Show Network. Her admiration for Western films, especially those starring John Wayne, and her love for music from the 1960s and beyond, with favorites like Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson, and New Kids on the Block, brought her immense joy.

A dedicated member of Shadeland Baptist Church, Linda played a pivotal role in the congregation, writing the church bulletin for over 15 years. Her contributions to the church reflected her deep faith and commitment to her community.

Linda’s presence will be deeply missed by her husband, James, who cherished her companionship and love; her son, Richard Scott, who will forever hold dear her stories and comforting words; and her daughter-in-law, Drew, who will miss the daily texts and weather updates that were Linda's way of staying connected. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents and her best friend, Diane Hurd. Her memory is lovingly honored by her cousins Mary Ann, Suzie, and Alice.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan - Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM. Linda will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.

Linda Handlon's life was a melody of love and care—a tune that will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched.
