Linda J. Alsip, 85, passed away late in the evening on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Linda was born on November 13, 1938, to William and Thelma Jones, who lived in Indianapolis IN. Linda attended St Agnes High School, Indianapolis, Indiana then Good Samaritan College of Nursing, Cincinnati, Ohio.
She married Thomas E. Alsip. She supported him raising their 3 children during their 6 years in the Air Force living in base housing at Vance AFB, in Enid, Oklahoma and then at Wright Patterson AFB, in Dayton Ohio. She often mentioned how those years living in base housing were some of her fondest memories. Once they left the military, they settled back in Indianapolis and had their 4th child.
Linda’s nursing career spanned nearly 50 years. Her career highlights were Director of Nursing at Community Fairbanks Recovery Center and a long stay as supervising nurse at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital-Indianapolis. During these years she pursued more education and acquired her Bachelor of Arts degree from College of St. Francis, Indianapolis, Indiana. She loved the symphony, the arts and during her retirement she was involved with fundraisers supporting The Palladium at the Center for Performing Arts, Carmel IN. She also became a Master Bridge player at Indianapolis Bridge Center.
Linda is survived by her children Christopher Alsip, Janet Alsip, Jennifer Hisgen, and Jaqueline Short; her grandchildren, Cory Short, Michael Alsip, Ryan Alsip, Kendall Short, Samuel Alsip, Peter Hisgen and the late Jacob Alsip; her great-grandchildren, Ophelia Hisgen and Thorbjorn Hisgen; her siblings, Carolyn Francis, Jennifer Endsley, and Richard (Dick) Jones and many nieces and nephews.
Linda’s funeral will be this Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Saint Simon the Apostle Catholic Church, 8155 Oaklandon Road, Indianapolis, IN 46236. Visitation will be from 9:30 am -10:00 am. The funeral mass will begin at 10:00 am.
