Lewis S. Baker, Jr., of Indianapolis passed away peacefully May 30, 2019 at the age of 93.
Lewis was born October 21, 1925 in Indianapolis to the late Lewis S. and Emma Jeanette Baker. He attended Tech High School and then went on to serve his country in the US Navy during WWII. He retired from Allisons after 33 years and continued to work part time for the Indianapolis Speedway during the month of May. He was a member of Old Bethel United Methodist Church and enjoyed his volunteer work for Civil Defense and collecting trucks. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and tall tales.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Alice G. Baker; children Dennis Baker and Janice Long; grandchildren Heather Smith (Randy) and Garath Webb; great-granddaughter Amber Smith; and siblings Agnes Podgorski, Betty Miller, Helen Lasiter, Jeanette Lockwood, Gloria Miller and Pat Baker.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Bill Baker, John Baker, Margaret Folgolman, and Kate Dwigans.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 6 from 12 to 2 PM with a Funeral Service beginning at 2 PM in Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St, Indianapolis. Burial with military honors will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery.
