OBITUARY:

Levora Oden Wade

Indianapolis – Levora Oden Wade journeyed from this earthly home to reunite with her loving husband Charles Dandy Wade, Sr. to be in the presence of our Lord God in Heaven.  She completed her transition on Monday, February 1, 2021 at 9:40 in the morning.  Levora was born March 10, 1928 in McRoberts, Kentucky and was raised a true-to-life coal miner’s daughter.  She was the fourth of eleven siblings and the third of six girls.  She attended Tom Biggs Grade School in McRoberts and Dunham High School in nearby Jenkins, Kentucky.  After graduation in 1946, Levora enrolled in Kentucky State University to study Elementary Education.  There Levora met Charles, a handsome young man on the football team, who became her friend, husband and lifelong soulmate.

After marriage in 1948, Levora and Charles moved to Alliance, Ohio to begin their lives together.  Levora soon became a dedicated wife, mother, and career woman.  She worked as a nurse’s aide while studying for and completing the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) examination.  During her impressive nursing career, she felt privileged and honored to be supervisor of the Alliance Nursing Home.

Levora was known to love her patients as though they were her very own children.  She enjoyed spoiling them by purchasing special gifts on their birthdays, decorating the facility on holidays, and hugging her patients whenever she encountered them in the nursing home.  She often stretched the rules by having her sons go to the local ice cream stand and sneak ice cream cones to her favorite patient Isadore and his friends.  Levora readily adapted to providing nursing care to nuns residing at Our Lady of The Elms Infirmary after relocating to Akron, Ohio where she remained until she and Charles moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 2008.  There she formed a special bond with her great-grandchildren Moriah and DJ and her namesake, granddaughter Levora (aka Angel).

Levora was preceded in death by her husband Charles; parents Sam and Lady Lee; brothers Lehman, Edward (aka Gates), Wilbur and John; sisters Sammie Lee and Sondra; granddaughter Alysia; great-granddaughter Olivia; and daughter-in-law Faye Brock-Wade.

A kind and caring mother; vivacious to the end, Levora leaves behind sons Charles Jr. (Georgine), Kenneth (LaDonna), Larry, and Ronald Sr. to cherish her memory, as well as daughter Delthea who was at her bedside as she entered eternity.  Other family in Levora’s loving embrace include siblings Mary, Ruth, Julius, and Lovette; grandchildren Kimberly, Jessica, Perry, Jenny, Heidi, Shavonya, Serena; Shomari, Ronald Jr., Charles, Afra, Rashad, Angel; 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members including Lenox Faye Wade and Junia Harrington, the most recent descendants of Levora Oden Wade in the year of our Lord 2020.

In lieu of flowers, the family is creating a Charles Wade, Sr. and Levora (Oden) Wade Scholarship Fund. Details will be made available for you to donate shortly.
