Leroy Allen Eckert

LeRoy Allen Eckert, age 85, passed away on March 1, 2021 after a short but courageous battle against lung cancer.

LeRoy was born on March 10, 1935 to Eddie and Margaret Eckert.  He lived on the west side of Indianapolis most of his life, attending Garden City Grade School and then Ben Davis High School.  After high school, he attended General Motors Institute in Flint Michigan where he graduated as an Industrial Engineer.  He worked at Allison Division, GM and then for EDS before retiring in 1994.

LeRoy married Norita Marshall in June of 1993.  Their combined family included his three sons, Mark (Paula) Eckert, Mike (Sam) Eckert, and Mitch (Christina) Eckert; and his grandchildren, Allan (Missy) Eckert and Ashley (Casey) Jones.  Also remaining are his stepchildren, Kevin (Maria) Marshall, Leslie Windhorst and Lynn (Bob) Fox.  Together, he and Norita had 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  Other beloved family members are his nieces, Lisa Hoppes and Kathy (Mike) Murray, who were the daughters of LeRoy’s sister, Beverly Hoppes, who predeceased him.

LeRoy enjoyed his family as well as woodworking, music, traveling, dining out, and life in general.  A devout Christian, he was a member of Fleming Garden Christian Church where he served as an Elder and head of the Financial Dept. as well as singing in the Choir.

Visitation will be on Monday March 8^th, at Flanner Buchanan Floral Park, 425 N. Holt Road, Indianapolis, from 3 to 5 p.m.  Service will be at 5 p.m.  The mortuary can handle 100 people at a time, and will require masks and social distancing.  LeRoy will be cremated and interred at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown, IN.
