Mr. Leonard W. Burnett was born on June 6, 1927 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the first of eight children born to Boyd and Mary Carter Burnett.
Leonard attended the Indianapolis Public Schools and in 1945 graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. An honorably discharged veteran of the United States Air Force, he served with distinction and valor during World War II. He was employed at Chrysler for six years and retired from the United States Post Office in 1988 after 32 years of service.
In 1954 he was united in marriage to Patricia McCann. To this union three children were born. In 1968, he was united in marriage to Ernestine R. Gossett. To this union he was blessed with four step-children.
Having professed a belief in Christ at a young age, Mr. Burnett was a charter member of St. Paul Baptist Church. He served actively and faithfully as President of the Junior Usher Board, President of the Senior Choir, Chairman of the Deacon Board, and Church Janitor.
Mr. Burnett enjoyed being an avid bowler. Also, he enjoyed reading, gardening, fishing, traveling, and was known for making dinner rolls that would melt in your mouth.
Mr. Burnett departed this life on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the age of 91. His parents: Boys Burnett, Sr. and Mary Burnett Blaylock; and brothers: Boyd, Jr. and Melvin Burnett and sister: Delphine Johnson preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife Ernestine R. Burnett; seven daughters, Monica Partee, Francine A. Yates, Kathi M. Burnett, Terri M. Brooks, Delia A. Burnett, Valencia I. Rascoe (Lars), Lezlie M. Burnett. One son, Frank Gossett (Corrina). One brother, John Burnett, of Baltimore, Maryland; two sisters, Geraldine Stewart and Mary Abdullah, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, church family and friends.
