Leonard “Lennie” Raymond Outcalt, 85, of Indianapolis, Indiana born November 25, 1938 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Cyril and Gladys Outcalt succumbed to his illness and passed away to be with the Lord on August 9, 2024.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, sisters Berniece Lowes and Delores Pumphrey and brother Earl Outcalt. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Brenda (Kirk) Outcalt, his brother Fred Outcalt, his children Terry Outcalt, Mark Outcalt (Dottie), Theresa Outcalt Hedeen (Roy), Tiffany Wesseler (Michael), Melanie Block-Thralls (Michael), grandchildren Kyleigh-Danyel Meinsen (Matthew), Garrett Hedeen, Cody Outcalt, Cheyenne Outcalt, Stephen Outcalt (Jessica), Estee Anna Denbo (Sean), Hannah Long (Justin) and great-grandchildren Easton Meinsen, Bodhi Meinsen, Addison Nenedjian, Carson Outcalt, Gabriella Outcalt, Kalilah Outcalt, Annabella (Bella) Denbo, Eleanor (Ellie) Outcalt, and Cassidy Long.

Kind, quiet, patient, good, and humble are words to describe Leonard. He loved all of us in his own way and it often involved sharing his “farm” and his love of the outdoors. He loved to fish, hunt, and watch the humming birds at his farm and through the years he drove down daily to be there.

Leonard loved to hunt turkey and deer. As he got older, each year he would say this was the last year… he was giving it up. But as each year came, he became excited to take his kids, grand kids and great-grand kids out and “get a turkey”! He was always very proud of his family.

Leonard had a real bear rug in his living room. When asked how he got it he said after he retired some buddies were going on a hunting trip to Canada. They were all taken out to different areas on the lake to track and hunt bear and he ended up being the only one to come home with a bear!

Leonard was a huge NASCAR fan but regardless of it being a NASCAR race or not he was always excited to hear about and watch races. He liked to hear about his family’s adventures and travels particularly when they involved nature and the outdoors. Just a few nights ago while lying in the ER bed he wanted to hear all about his children’s recent trips.

Leonard was a very humble man. He was a graduate of Southport High School, he served in the Indiana Army National Guard, volunteered as a firefighter, coached his children’s Little League teams, was one of the inaugural marathon runners of the 500 Festivals Mini Marathon, which he continued to run in for 38 years. Faith was very important to him and he taught VBS and Sunday school, was an Indiana Bow Hunter Educator and past President, and he retired from Allison’s Gas Turbine after 30 dedicated years. He would often joke that he got the better deal. He was retired longer than he worked for them. Good for him!

We are all going to miss you! We are sure on your way up to heaven you were looking for a good deal on property, spotting deer and scoping out tree stand locations. Love ya Lennie! Rest in peace.
