Leo F. Moye, 81, of Indianapolis passed in his sleep on June 27, 2018. Leo is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Linda (Dailey), daughters Michelle (Tom) Springer, Stacey Augustine, sister Patti Stayte, and four grandchildren Adam 29 and Amber 26 (Wiese), Eli 11 and Ava 10 (Augustine). Also included is Leo’s several nephews, and great nephews, and great niece.
Leo was born in Richmond, IN on May 27,1937 to Francis and Rose Moye. He grew up on the near southside of Indianapolis and attended P.S. 21. Leo graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in 1955 where he excelled in football, basketball, and (his favorite and best) baseball. He received a scholarship and continued playing football (QB and OL) and baseball (Catcher) at Indiana Central College (now U of Indianapolis), where he received his teaching degree in 1959.
Leo played semi-pro baseball for P.R. Mallory for a few years in the early 1960’s. He taught and coached at Perry Central and Perry East for a few years then finished his teaching career at Creston Junior High where he coached and served as athletic director for 28 years.
After retiring at 55, Leo doted on and catered to his grandchildren, and enjoyed attending their many activities. He belonged to Community Church of Greenwood for many years.
A viewing will be from 4-8:00 pm on Monday, July 2nd, and service at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 3rd at Flanner and Buchanan Washington Park East. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Greater Indiana Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association.
