Leland Orville Dickerson

Leland O. Dickerson, 97, passed away on May 7,2020. He was the son of Jesse E. and Ester Plank Dickerson. He was born at home, October 22,1922 in Parma, Idaho. In 1929 he moved to Indianapolis, IN and became a longtime resident of Irvington.

As a young boy, Lee became an Eagle Scout. He was in the first graduating class at Howe High school in 1941. He was a veteran of WW II and proudly served in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate 3rd Class. He helped support the Scout Observation Service Unit (SOSU) and was thrilled at the invitation to fly on the planes that he helped service. During his last year of service, his only brother Robert S. Dickerson, was killed during the Battle of the Bulge and was posthumously awarded two Purple Hearts. After his honorable discharge in 1946, Lee attended Butler University and graduated from Central Business College Indianapolis in 1948. He had a career in the financial department at Western Electric retiring in 1982. He was also a proud member of Irvington Presbyterian Church for over 80 years.

Lees wife of 54 years, Annabelle York Dickerson, preceded him in death in 2000. Also proceeding him in death was son James Dickerson passing away in 2006 and his sister Vivian Holmes, who passed in 2019. He is survived by his sister Beverly Steckley. He is also survived by his children: daughter Linda Sullivan (Frank)  and son, Robert Dickerson (Jane). Grandchildren: Lori Sullivan, Frank Sullivan II (Kelsi) John Dickerson and Anna Dickerson. Great Grandchildren, Gabby Guerra, Cassie Guerra, Maddie Guerra, Emily Sullivan, plus nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted by Joseph Bozzelli.
