Lee Raul Douthitt of Fishers, Ind., passed away on March 26, 2021, at the age of 45 after a courageous six-month battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Lee was born in Indianapolis, Ind., on March 6, 1976, to parents David F. and Mary (Schunk) Douthitt. He graduated from Lawrence Central High School and earned his associate’s degree from Wyoming Technical Institute. Lee began a successful, 21-year career, as a sales representative with Tom Wood Porsche, Audi, Land Rover, Jaguar and Volvo (currently Tom Wood Porsche) in December 1999.
Lee was a lifelong Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Indianapolis 500 race fan. He was a dedicated volunteer during the month of May, helping move 500 Festival cars, transporting drivers and he even drove the checkered flag around the famed oval before the Indy 500 one year. He was an avid Indy 500 Festival license plate collector and was a wealth of knowledge and a historical resource for other Indy 500 race enthusiasts. Lee was also a member of Camaro Pace Car Clubs and a model car collector.
Lee was an enthusiastic supporter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. He single-handedly raised $14,000 for their “Man of the Year” campaign in the last couple of months, all while undergoing treatments himself.
Lee was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Arthur and Marjorie Schunk, and paternal grandparents, Glenn and Constance “Connie” Douthitt.
Lee is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Laura E. (Hamlin) Douthitt; son, Austin W. Douthitt; parents, David F. Douthitt (Elizabeth) and Mary Louden (Jeff); half-siblings: Jennifer Douthitt, Lindsay Douthitt (Lydia) and Hannah Douthitt; and many other loving extended family members and beloved friends.
