Laverne Ruth Stout

December 29, 1926 — June 11, 2018

Indianapolis, Indiana

LaVerne R. Stout went to be with her Lord on Monday, June 11, 2018. She was born on December 29th, 1926, the oldest daughter of Vaughn and Helen Graf, in South Bend, Indiana. She graduated from John Adams High School, South Bend, in 1944. After graduation, she worked in the Physical Testing Lab at Ball-Band Company in Mishawaka, Indiana. She met her future husband, Don Stout, at work in 1945 and they married in March 1946. In September 1946, she moved to Indianapolis where her husband was going to school. She was a mother and homemaker for several years. In the 1960’s – 1970’s she worked at the Brownsburg Dairy Queen. She was the best dilly dipper in town. She also worked several years in the concession venues at the Indiana-Kentucky All Star Basketball Game at Hinkle Fieldhouse and the National Drag Races in Clermont, Indiana. She was an active member of the Church of the Master, 1620 Girl School Road, Indianapolis. She served in the church as a Choir Member, Sunday School Teacher, Financial Secretary, and as a Deaconess. For several years in the 1980’s and 90’s she volunteered with a Cerebral Palsy Group that met at the Municipal Gardens Family Center. She was greatly appreciated and received awards for her work with the group. Mrs. Stout loved her family fiercely and was the “glue” that held her family together. Her family will miss her everyday. She was the proud mother of 7 children, 12 grandchildren, and a still growing number of great grandchildren, now at 22. Mrs. Stout was never enthusiastic about “new technology”, but lived her life with a great deal of common sense and was always available for support and advise on any family problem. She loved to read and in later life struggled with serious eye problems, but always kept a positive attitude. She was preceded in seeing the Lord by the loss of her husband, Don Stout, two sisters, Patsy and JoAnn, and 3 brothers, Jerry, Don, and Bill. Survivors include Cy (Margie) Stout, Jon (Vickie) Stout, Ron Stout, Carol (Vinton) Knarr, Cheri (John) Oakley, Jill York, and Sue Rohrer; 12 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at IU West and IU Health (Methodist) for the loving care they provided to Mrs. Stout.
