Laverne Burkhart

Shelbyville, Indiana – Laverne Burkhart, 79, passed away at home comforted by her family, on March 12, 2025. Her love for her family and her puppies, her outgoing nature, and most of all her smile, will be deeply missed.

Laverne was born in Clarksville, Tennessee, on August 11, 1945, to parents Horace & Chrystelle Landrum. She worked for several years as a manager at J. Garment, one of their first women supervisors, until their closing.

Laverne married the love of her life, James Levy Burkhart, in 1967, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage together before his passing in 2018. She took immense pride in her return to college, attending Austin Peay university. She graduated in 1999 as Magna Cum Laude in Applied Science.

Laverne loved to travel with her best friend Pat, taking cruises, visiting Las Vegas and spending time in Gatlinburg.

Laverne is survived by her son Brian Keith Burkhart (Stephanie); brother Kenneth Wayne Landrum (Amy); grandchildren Zachary Mullins; best friend Pat Peacher; and grandpups Dave & Bella.

A celebration of life will be held in Clarksville, TN on March 30th at 2pm. It will be held at First Baptist Church St. Bethlehem, 2232 Wilma Rudolph Blvd
