Larry Hu was born on July 16th, 2004 in Mountain View, California. He passed away on May 5, 2019, after close to 5 years of constant fighting against brain cancer. Larry is survived by his loving parents, Steve and Julie and his older brother Justin. His beloved paternal grandparents, maternal grandfather and aunt live in China. Another aunt lives in Australia and his small, tight-knit family also includes two cousins. He was preceded in passing by his maternal grandmother.
Larry was a high school freshman student of Indiana Connection of Academy. He attended Fall Creek Junior High School for 2 years, Fall Creek Intermediate School for 1 year in Fishers, Indiana, Palo Verde Elementary School for 1 year in Palo Alto, California. He also attended The International School of Beijing for 4 years when his parents relocated to China for work.
Larry always had high expectations for himself and was a hard-working student. He had been a straight A student in every single class since elementary school and won numerous awards. One of his teachers keeps his work in the classroom as a model portfolio for the upcoming students. Among all classes, math was his favorite subject. He was a passionate reader and writer, as he always either had a book with him to read or listened to audiobooks on his phone. He also created a website to publish his novels.
Larry had a wide spectrum of interests. He liked drawing and he was also a player of badminton and tennis. Larry was passionate about music, as he loved violin and he learned to play piano during his chemotherapy. Music lifted him up during his treatment journey.
Larry was curious about the world and loved traveling. With his family, he had travelled to many places worldwide such as cities throughout mainland China, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Australia, as well as Alaska, Washington DC, New York City and other sites in the U.S.
Larry had an amiable personality and had lots of friends. He was loved by all the teachers who had the chance to teach him. Larry was a natural leader and one of the purposes of his life was to help others. He always offered help to family members, friends and classmates. Larry had an incredibly warm and caring heart. Every holiday season, he donated at grocery stores to help people in need; he often asked his parents to give money to homeless people while waiting at a traffic light.
Larry is remembered by his resilience and strong internal strength. His family and friends treasure the nearly 15 years of life they were blessed to have with Larry.
In lieu of flowers, Julie and Steve would like to recognize the excellent medical care provided to Larry by the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and UC San Francisco Benioff Children’s Hospital. They recommend any memorial donations be made out to Larry Hu for a legacy fund established at the Elements Financial, 225 South East Street, Ste. 300 Indianapolis, IN 46202, that will be directed to those oncology departments.
