Larry was a legendary distance runner who helped usher in Southern Indiana’s distance running dominance. He graduated from Central High school in 1976, where he held the school’s one and two-mile records. He ran 9:14 for two miles in the mid-70s. In college, he was a star at Western Kentucky University (WKU), where he was a four-time NCAA Division 1 All-American (two in cross country, one in the indoor 2-mile, one in the outdoor 5,000 meters). Running for Mason-Dixon AC in 1980, he was on the team that won the United States Cross Country Championships. In 1982, he ran a very fast 7:52.74 in the 3000 meters. Larry would go on to run professionally for the famous Sub 4 Track Club, where he set the American 15K road record.
After graduating from WKU with a degree in Computer Science, Larry went on to a successful career in Information Technology, first co-founding Computing Solutions in Evansville and later with companies such as Brown & Williamson, Covance, Gilead Sciences and BCforward, earning an MBA from Bellarmine University along the way.
In his free time, Larry enjoyed golfing with his sons, hosting family gatherings at his home, playing with his grandchildren and just spending time with those he loved. He was an avid Royal Caribbean cruiser and prided himself on being a Diamond Plus member. He enjoyed traveling, having lived on three continents. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor. He would do absolutely anything to make someone laugh. He was kind, a selfless gift giver, a loyal friend and an amazing dad. He will be greatly missed by his friends and loved ones.
