Larry Berns, age 73, is off onto a new journey. Larry passed on March 7, 2019. Son to Edith and Richard Kopfstein, he was born November 26, 1945. Raised on the north side of Chicago, Larry became a Restaurant owner of DK Brunchies, after returning home from Vietnam. He moved his family to Indianapolis in 1974 and opened a Restaurant/ Disco called The Reunion. Larry then opened Industrial Liquidators buying and selling interesting items, as well as holding auctions. In March of 1992, he met the love of his life, Rhonda Wagman and they married in 1995 which turned into a 24 year romance. Together they started Gabriel Industrial Park which still exists today. Larry loved building Remote Control boat models, being the ultimate host to his friends and neighbors, cooking, and boating on their lake. He had a serious love for speaking Yiddish. He taught a Yiddish class at the JCC. Larry also taught a class on the Holocaust at IHC Temple and traveled with his students to the Museum in Wash. DC for a day trip. He was a member of B’nai Torah and cherished his Monday Lunch n’ Learns. He shared Rhonda’s love for the Cayman Islands and had dreamed of living there someday. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda; children Meredith (Paul) Glassman, Florida, Sara (Dorin) Weinschrott, Noblesville and Jennifer (Rick) Lapins, Chicago. Grandchildren include Ellie Mathias, Faigy, Zev, Chaya Mina (Minnie) and Tova Glassman, Liam and Charlotte Weinschrott and Daniel and Alex Lapins. Brother Reuven (Cynthia) Berns, New York and sister-in- law Suzi Wagman. Services were held on March 8th. Shiva/Visiting will be at the Bern’s residence Saturday and Sunday from 4-6 pm.
