November 25, 1936 — October 23, 2024

Indianapolis, IN

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Lamberto "Dr. Bert" Abeleda, a devoted physician, loving husband, and cherished family patriarch. Dr. Bert was born on November 25, 1936, in the Lubang, Philippines to the late Magno and Francisca Abeleda and began his remarkable journey through life with a spirit of selflessness, humility, and unwavering commitment to those he loved.

Dr. Bert immigrated to the United States in 1964, determined to create a life dedicated to serving others. After graduating from the University of East Medical School, he completed his medical residencies in Cleveland, Ohio, and St. Louis, Missouri. Specializing in internal medicine and cardiology, Dr. Bert spent most of his career at the Inlow Clinic and Major Hospital in Shelbyville, Indiana. He was deeply committed to building lasting relationships with his patients and cherished the opportunity to care for and serve his community, practicing medicine well into his eighties.

Dr. Bert is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Olive, whose joy he shared through their years of dancing, traveling, and building a life filled with love. He was a dedicated father to his three children, Caroline (John Leonard), Oliver (Karen), and Tito, and a proud “Lolo” to his three grandchildren, Sophia, Dane, & Caden, who brought him unparalleled happiness and laughter. He is also survived by his siblings, Tessie, Billy, and Helen. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Rolando, Romeo, and Rufi.

A tireless worker since the age of seven, Dr. Bert’s life embodied strength and perseverance. His family will remember him as a selfless, humble, and courageous man, always placing others' needs before his own and supporting family members near and far without hesitation. He was the cornerstone of the Abeleda family, a source of guidance, strength, and love.

Dr. Bert’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched as a doctor and friend, and in the cherished memories held by his family and patients. His love of travel, tennis, racquetball, and his unyielding devotion to his family and community will forever be remembered.

Dr. Bert’s impact on those around him is a testament to a life well-lived, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. His memory will live on as a beacon of kindness, faith, and loyalty.
