Kris Thinnes

August 17, 1956 — January 29, 2025

Kris Thinnes was born on August 17, 1956, to Bonnie and Jerome Thinnes. He grew up in Lafayette, attending Lafayette schools and proudly graduating from Lafayette Central Catholic, a school he always held close to his heart.

In his younger years, Kris was an avid athlete, playing both football and baseball. His love for sports never faded, and he was always eager to offer a few coaching tips—whether solicited or not—to his children, grandchildren, and nephews on how they could improve their game.

Kris was a devoted father to Amanda and Jeffrey, always one of their biggest supporters. Whether cheering on Amanda in softball and color guard or Jeffrey on the soccer field and wrestling mat, he never missed a chance to be on the sidelines—often voicing his opinion to a referee or two!

On September 5, 2009, Kris married Jayne, the love of his life. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. One of his greatest joys was fulfilling his dream of owning a house and boat on Geist, where he spent countless hours on the water. Captaining his pontoon was his happy place, his face lighting up whenever he was behind the wheel.

Eight years ago, Kris and Jayne moved to Florida, embarking on a new chapter filled with adventures and cherished memories. Their love was unwavering, standing strong through every challenge, especially in the face of his health battles.

Kris had a knack for bringing people together, whether through his legendary dinner nights, getaways with friends and family, or simply being the life of the party. He will be fondly remembered for his off-key but beloved birthday songs, his passionate commentary on Colts and Purdue games, and, of course, his ever-reliable updates on police radar locations for anyone hitting the road.

No matter the distance—whether right next to you or a thousand miles away—Kris made sure you knew he loved you, wanted the best for you, and was always there when you needed him.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jayne; his children, Amanda (Todd) Westerfield and Jeffrey (Shannon) Thinnes; his grandchildren, Shelby and Kennedy Westerfield, Kallie Benedick, and Logan Thinnes; and his great-granddaughter, Lennox; brothers, Kevin Thinnes, Kirk (Angela) Thinnes; sister, Kathy (Mark) Buche, Brother-in-law, Dr. Jay Lozier (Dr. Mary Lou McMaster); and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie and Jerome Thinnes, brother, Kerry Thinnes, and In-laws, Thomas and Marilyn Lozier.

Kris' presence, laughter, and love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Flanner Buchanan—Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229, from 6PM-9PM. There will be a final viewing the following day held at the funeral home at 9AM. After the final viewing, there will be a funeral procession to Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 3650 W 106th St. Carmel, IN 46032, where a funeral will start at 11AM. Kris will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery.
