Kris T. Schepers "Momma K”

September 7, 1967 - August 8, 2024 (56 years young)

With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Kris T. (Stippich) Schepers, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and esteemed professional who left us on August 8th, 2024, after a courageous and valiant battle – a Mike Tyson level fight – with breast cancer. Kris was born on September 7, 1967, and is remembered for her deep commitment to her family, exceptional contributions to athletic training, and her dedication to students, athletes, patients, friends, and community.

Kris was the cherished wife of Kurt Schepers, whom she married on June 6, 1996. Together they raised three sons who were the light of her life: Grant (Reaghan Jokovich), Reid (significant other Emily Robinson), and Gabe. Kris is also survived by her loving mother, Marshia Stippich; her devoted sister, Karin Hollifield; her caring brother, Scott Stippich (Karen); mother-in-law, Sylvia Schepers; and brother-in-law, Jason Schepers (Andrea). She was preceded in death by her father, Greg Stippich; brother, Peter Stippich; and father-in-law, Ralph Schepers.

A distinguished career in athletic training spanned over 30 years, during which Kris became a highly respected figure in sports medicine. Her professional journey included impactful roles at Westfield High School/Riverview Health, University High School & Heritage Christian High School/St. Vincent Sports Performance, Northside Orthopedic Center, and Hoosier Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Other notable professional accomplishments included her involvement with the Indiana Pacers (particularly with Reggie Miller and Mark Jackson), the NFL Combine, the NCAA Big Ten Football Championships, the Spirit of Sport Awards, the USA Track & Field Team, and her full-time job of keeping Grant, Reid, Gabe, and Griffin alive. In her recent retirement from Riverview Health on September 8, 2023, she was honored with a memorable flyover at the football game. Her response to that was, and we quote, “I am kind of a big deal” which made all laugh. Her dedication on the field was matched only by her compassion and commitment to her patients and colleagues.

Kris was celebrated for her remarkable achievements, including 2024 IATA Hall of Fame, 2021 IndyStar Sports Mom of the Year, and the 2018 IATA Distinguished Service Award. Her impact on athletic training and in sports medicine is etched in the hearts of those she served and inspired.

Kris' expertise was not confined to her professional life. She was also deeply involved in her community, ISU ZTA Sorority, and volunteering for various causes including St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church where she was an active member for many years, and serving as a mentor and instructor for student trainer programs. Her volunteer work extended to supporting Helping Challenged Children and becoming a member of the Women of the Moose during her vacation to Alaska.

In addition to her professional and community work, Kris had a zest for life that was evident through her love of travel, planning parties, and doting over her children. Her presence was a gift to everyone fortunate enough to know her, and her memory will forever be cherished. We will miss her quick wit and her one liner’s.

Visitation to honor Kris’ life will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Hamilton Memorial Park (Prairie Waters), 4180 Westfield Road on Tuesday, August 13th, 2024 from 4-8 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 3:40 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at St. Maria Goretti Church on Wednesday, August 14th, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. with additional visitation at the church prior to Mass from 10-11:30 a.m. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported them during this time of grief. Our prayers are with you as you journey forward without her.

Rest in peace, dear Kris. Your light and love will continue to inspire and guide us.
